Paulo Freitas is a Portuguese graphic designer currently living and working in Lisbon.
With particular experience in the field of culture, Paulo has been working for 20 years for different entities ranging between museums, theatres, concert halls or publishing houses, among many others. He develops projects in different areas of Communication Design, with special emphasis on Editorial Design and Visual Identity.
His work reflects attention to detail and careful use of typography, always with the focus on the customer, individualising his or her needs and purposes through dialogue and cooperation.
Paulo graduated in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts (Lisbon), in 2000. He began his career working at the Coyote Designers studio (2000-2004) and in 2005 he co-founded the Flatland Design studio where, until 2017, he was graphic designer and manager. Paulo also worked as assistant designer for the DocLisboa – International Film Festival (2013, 2014 and 2015).
Currently, in addition to managing his own projects, he collaborates with the studios, Ophelia and Formas do Possível.
Teaching
Since 2013 Paulo has been teaching at the HND – Communication Design and Multimedia course at the ETIC – School of Innovation and Creation Technologies, in Lisbon.
In 2015, 2016, 2021 and 2022 he was also a mentor in the project ETIC_IDEIA, organised by the same school.

The Proposal Series, a collaborative editorial project between Bypass Editions and Flatland Design, consisting of a set of proposals experimenting with the content and form of the book from an independent production perspective / 2013.
Portugal 2011 National Year of the Crisis – a graphic intervention in the Portuguese present. The project, where Paulo was co-author, coordinator and designer, had the support of several entities (including the Lisbon City Council). It resulted in two exhibitions: in Lisbon at the Sala do Risco Gallery and in Cem Soldos (Tomar) at the Bons Sons Festival / 2011-2012.
